The refurbishment of the grand train station into a hotel is nearing completion and they have kept much of the details of the main station lobby. It feels grand, though I question some of their design choices (neon bright spot lights?) The heating systems were off and on, including bouts of cold and hot water in the showers. The food at the grill and their main restaurant was Okay, but nothing to get excited about.
The rooms were very large, beds very comfortable. The hotel lobby was very elegant and the old train terminal atmosphere was very cool. The bathroom was renovated with a stone vanity and very nice tile, but they used a very crappy tub surround.
While we enjoyed the uniqueness of the train station turned hotel, we were impressed by the staff. From the desk clerks right down to the bartender, EVERYONE made us feel at home and bent over backwards to take care of our needs. Though I could use anyone as an example, I was particularly struck by the friendliness and professionalism of one of your longtime lady bartenders (whose name escapes me). I came quite late. Though she was probably thinking she would get out early, she bent over backwards to find out what I wanted. A few other regulars came in and she made a point of introducing us in the most engaging an appropriate way I have ever experienced in a Pennsylvania Hotel. I can see why this lady has been retained for 30 years and I only regret that I've forgotten her name as she deserves to be properly appreciated. Not being able to get a receipt because I booked via Kayak with a service that you don't access directly.
Nice clean room. I had a very comfortable stay. The hotel walls are quite thin. Could hear a good bit of hall noise.
Rooms were clean, I give amenities a 9 Not enough restaurants/shopping in the area. No fault to the hotel but, we had to drive abt 15 mins away to an area with a mall and restaurants.
For the good, first would be the beds and pillows. They were very comfortable and I slept well each night. The room was neat and clean. The public parts of the hotel were well kept and inviting. The location of the hotel was decent, only about a mile from downtown. It's an easy ride to downtown as well. I read several negative reviews of the on site restaurant. Although I only had breakfast there, I would disagree with those reviews. The breakfast menu pretty standard for the north. The food was prepared well. The service was quick, without feeling rushed. Our server was pleasant and engaging. And I felt that the pricing was comparable to what you would at an off site diner. Definitely not gouging. There were only a few minor quibbles I had with the hotel. The walls were pretty thin. There was family with children in the next room. I knew this because I could hear the children well into the evening. It didn't bother me or keep me up, but I was aware of it. In fact, they may have had the worse if it as I am a snorer. Secondly, though clean and functional, the bathroom looked as if it could use a refresh. And lastly, the hot tub could have been a bit warmer. As I said, these were minor quibbles. Overall, I was pleased with my stay at the hotel.
Location. Value. Breakfast. Comforter too heavy. Would like the option of a lighter blanket.
With a family of five the included breakfast is a great plus. Nothing. We weren't there long enough.
We spent one night during a extended car trip, it was easily accessible from the highway. Felt it was a good value for the money. Feather pillows on the bed, my two asthmatic children cannot have them. I guess to others they are considered a luxury, to us they are a hazard.
Rooms were beautiful and smelled so nice!!! I'd definitely come back!
The room was clean, amenities more than fine for what I was staying for (just one night to crash after an event in Scranton), and looks like it would be a nice place to stay for a longer visit too. The in room coffee maker and fridge were great additions, and the Noon check-out time is nice for a late-riser like myself – even 11:00 can be a little early sometimes. And kudos to the front desk employee who helped change my night when I was checking in – I accidentally booked the wrong night online and didn't realize until I was in the lobby but he switched it no problem and with no additional fees! Signage, the hotel is tucked up a driveway completely hidden from view from the road and the only sign they have is about the size of a Dunkin' Doughnuts drive-thru sign, on a dark road no less. There's a bigger sign once you get on the driveway obscured by trees but you can't see it from the road at all and I drove right by it the first time. They need a bigger and better lit sign so the driveway's easier to pick out, especially since there's two other Marriott brand hotels a stone's throw away up the road.
